Introducing the Coretta Scott King Classic

This past weekend saw the launch of Unrivaled, the new league founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, the new look 3 vs 3 women's

pro basketball league.

Today marks the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic, an NCAA women's basketball event created in collaboration between Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, Playfy Sports, and Fox. As the title sponsor, this is The King Center's most recent foray into sports partnerships, and as the title, it provides the foundation with significant exposure and awareness.

The classic will have its games aired on Fox and feature renowned programs from UCLA, Maryland, Baylor, and Texas at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The exposure generated is essential as The King Center looks to raise $100 million to enhance its Atlanta campus, provide exposure to a new cohort of supporters, and ensure relevancy with youth.

Events such as the Coretta Scott King Classic keep the widow of the late Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy of empowerment and advocacy alive and create new tangible connection points for younger changemakers across the United States. The connection between the King legacy and the credibility of Woemns' basketball from the NCAA to the WNBA to Olympians, which is now unrivalled, as social justice advocates, is potent.

This deal is also unique in that it will be a fundraiser for The King Center. In years to come, it will see additional monetization activities, including the alignment of a major brand as the event's presenting sponsor.

AP reported that King Center CEO Bernice King said of her mother - "Her enduring message of love and nonviolence is sorely needed during the challenging times we currently face. I pray the use of her name for this event further fosters the perpetuation of her indelible legacy."
